Why?

Because it’s a combination of great design, great craftsmanship, and great detail. The best part of the whole video is the explanation for choosing Yee-Haw Industries at the very beginning—”Because like Jack Daniel’s, Yee-Haw makes things the way they think is best—not the cheapest or fastest way, but with an independent spirit Jack would have been proud of.” As a designer, finding a client who puts quality and impact above price and speed, is hard to come by. And who doesn’t love a little Jack in their letterpress?

Motivation http://blog.goswire.com/motivation/ http://blog.goswire.com/motivation/#comments Mon, 24 Oct 2011 15:40:46 +0000 http://blog.goswire.com/?p=1364 Read More »]]> Lately I’ve been searching for a little inspiration and motivation in all aspects of life. Today, I found it. This video is the definition of motivating. This man, Fauja Singh, completed a marathon at 100 years of age. Now, I’ve played soccer for almost 3/4 of my life, but I HATE running. It’s weird, I know. I can’t imagine running now, at 26, let alone at 100. This man has brought new light to the saying, “you can do anything you put your mind to.”

I, personally, have been trying to make an extra effort to have a smaller carbon footprint on our planet. One thing I never thought would have an effect on the environment was the internet. This infographic video is not only beautifully designed, but also really thought-provoking in terms of the internet and its presence in the world today.

Inspiration: Letterpress http://blog.goswire.com/inspiration-letterpress/ http://blog.goswire.com/inspiration-letterpress/#comments Wed, 25 May 2011 08:52:24 +0000 http://blog.goswire.com/?p=638 Read More »]]> If I had unlimited funds and time, I would own a letterpress and make beautiful designs all day, every day. There’s just something so inspiring and motivating about creating something with your hands. The thing is, I can’t decide if it’s the art of letterpress, or typography itself that I enjoy more. Lucky for me, this super-cool video embodies both beautiful typography and the intricate process of creating a letterpress print.

I, personally, think that this makes the book a little bit more valuable. The time and care is amazing.

3D – No Glasses http://blog.goswire.com/3d-no-glasses/ http://blog.goswire.com/3d-no-glasses/#comments Sun, 13 Mar 2011 05:15:01 +0000 http://blog.goswire.com/?p=11 Working with cable and TV networks, I’m well-aware of the growing presence of 3D. This guy came up with a way to watch in 3D WITHOUT glasses. Really cool idea, but I would NEVER do this.

Tilt-Shift http://blog.goswire.com/tilt-shift/ http://blog.goswire.com/tilt-shift/#comments Wed, 26 Jan 2011 06:40:42 +0000 http://blog.goswire.com/?p=23 Read More »]]> Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of videos that utilize a tilt-shift lens to make everything seem like a miniature, or model-like version of reality. I’m totally obsessed with this new trend, and I hope to implement it into my own work sometime in the near future.

Everything is just better tiny :)

Vivian Maier – Inspiration http://blog.goswire.com/vivian-maier-inspiration/ http://blog.goswire.com/vivian-maier-inspiration/#comments Thu, 20 Jan 2011 05:33:20 +0000 http://blog.goswire.com/?p=25 Read More »]]> This is a video about a woman who worked as a nanny for 40 years in Chicago who carried her camera around with her everywhere she went. She took thousands of pictures of everyday life in Chicago in the 1950’s and 60’s, which weren’t discovered until some of her prints and negatives were sold in the auction of a storage locker in 2007. It wasn’t until after she had passed, that her work was recognized for how great it was.

It’s so crazy that someone so talented could go through their entire life unnoticed.
