Why Pinterest and Instagram Should Date

If you missed it, I recently wrote a post on what I think is going to be one of the next big social networks – Pinterest. I was talking to one of my friends recently about the network and stumbled onto something I think would be amazing. Pinterest and Instagram should date.

I see Pinterest as a Twitter-like service for people who enjoy pretty pictures. You’re basically sharing information with followers visually. There are no shortened URLs hiding your content or mysterious copy concealing what might or might not be a cool link. It’s simply on display for you to see. Instagram operates in the same way. You take your picture, apply any alterations, then post to your stream.

This is where I think both services can benefit each other. From the perspective of Pinterest, they’re getting new content uploaded, pinned, and shared continuously through mobile phones which may help them make a lot of headway in that area. Through Instagram’s eyes, they would be receiving an immense amount of additional exposure. Since Pinterest offers a beautiful and simplistic interface for viewing and sharing images, Instagram images could potentially flood the boards of users. The mobile photography movement is quickly on the rise and this would most definitely play to that trend.

The possibilities are exciting and I’m sure these two companies have already started thinking through this. I don’t think the question is “Why not?” so much as it is “When?”.

What do you think?

Thanks for reading.

I think they should date, AND get married! And I’d be curious to see what any kids look like. I love this title. :) Thanks for opening my eyes to Pinterest! And thanks for collecting the awesomeness of lolcats all in one place on your Pinterest board. :)
